PDF to Text

Copy text from a PDF that already has selectable text. Choose your pages and review the extracted words before saving TXT; a scanned page image needs OCR instead of direct text extraction.

Before you start

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a supported, unprotected PDF.
  2. Select the page range and extract its existing text.
  3. Check the reading order and any pages with no text, then copy or download TXT.

Understand the result

A digital PDF can store characters as text, while a scanned PDF may store each page as a picture. This tool reads existing text. It does not turn scanned page images into words; use image OCR for those pages.

How do I copy text from a PDF into an editable TXT file?

Choose a PDF that has an existing text layer, select the pages and extract. Read the output before using it: columns, headers and tables may appear in a different order from the page. Copy the words you need or download TXT; formatting and embedded images are not preserved.

Why is no text extracted from my scanned PDF?

A scan can be a picture of words with no underlying text layer. Export the relevant page with PDF to JPG, then use Image to Text and proofread its OCR output. Direct text extraction cannot recover words from an image-only page or repair every unusual font encoding.

Try a sample

Try an original sample to inspect the supported workflow. A successful sample is not a guarantee for every input.

If the result is not what you expected

The result is empty or has missing pages.

A scanned page may contain only an image. Export that page with PDF to JPG, then run Image to Text and proofread. This route does not create a searchable PDF or an editable Word layout.

Important limits

  • Existing text layers only; no automatic OCR.
  • Reading order can differ from the visual layout, especially in multi-column pages.
  • Fonts without useful character mappings can produce missing or incorrect text.
  • Maximum 20 MB, 100 pages and 2 million output characters.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my scanned PDF return no text?

The pages may contain only images. Render the needed pages with PDF to JPG, then recognize the images with Image to Text.

Will a table keep its rows and columns?

Plain text cannot preserve the complete PDF layout. Columns, tables and unusual text positioning may need editing after extraction.

Does this create a Word document?

No. It produces editable plain text and a TXT download, not a DOCX document.

Can it open a password-protected PDF?

This version does not process password-protected files or bypass document restrictions. Use an accessible copy you are authorized to process.
