Understand the result
Different applications can count words and characters differently. A visible emoji may contain several Unicode code points, and languages without spaces need word segmentation. Review the counting method shown with your result when comparing it with an assignment or platform's rules.
How do I check a word limit or character limit?
Paste only the text that the destination counts and read the matching total: words, characters or characters without spaces. Select the language of the pasted text separately from the website language. If an application counts its own input, use that final counter to decide whether the text fits.
Why does the count differ from Word or an application form?
Counters can treat hyphens, punctuation, spaces and emoji differently. This tool counts visible character clusters where supported by the browser, while another service may count code points or storage units. Chinese and Thai word counts also depend on segmentation. Compare the same text and counting rule before changing your draft.
Check the counting rule behind a limit
A platform may count code points, visible characters or another unit. A single visible emoji can contain more than one underlying character. When submitting text to a service with a fixed limit, use that service's own counter as the final check.
Try a sample
Try the exact text “Hello world” for two English words. Try a combined family emoji or an accented character to inspect visible-character counting. Select the text language and read the displayed counting method.

The destination shows a different count.
Word boundaries, emoji and spaces can be counted differently. Select the language of the text and compare the destination’s own counter before submitting a strict-length application.

Frequently asked questions
Why does another app show a different count?
Apps can handle punctuation, hyphens, emojis and word boundaries differently. Follow the destination's counter when it defines a submission limit.
Is reading time exact?
No. It is an estimate based on a displayed reading speed and text language. Technical material and individual reading habits can change the time.
