PRACTICAL TOOL GUIDE

Check a QR Code Before You Print It

A code that looks clear on a large screen can still be difficult to scan on a small label. Check both the information inside the code and the way it will be printed before distributing it.

Start with the exact information you want to share

For a website code, use the complete address, including https://. Read the address before generating the code, then decode the exported image and compare the result with your original. A successful decode confirms the encoded value; it does not confirm the destination will remain available.

Keep the clear border and strong contrast

Our generator uses a dark pattern on a white background with a clear border. Keep that border when placing the image in a design. Avoid stretching it into a rectangle, covering modules with a logo or placing it over a busy photograph. These changes can make recognition less reliable.

Test the final size and material

SVG is useful for scaling a code in a print design, while PNG has a fixed pixel grid. Neither format removes the need to test the final output. Print a sample at the intended size and try the actual lighting, material and viewing distance. There is no single size in this guide that guarantees every phone can scan every code.

Understand what a static code can change

The code stores the information directly. If that information is a website address, the page at that address can change, but the address inside the printed pattern cannot. Wi-Fi codes expose the network details encoded in them. Regenerate the image when you need to distribute different information.

Use the two tools as a check

Create the code with QR Code Generator and download it. Open the saved image in QR Code Reader and compare the decoded content. For Wi-Fi and contacts, also test the action on the receiving device before sharing it widely. Our image-reader test does not establish compatibility with every phone app.

Try the samples

These original samples were created for this site. Download a copy and try the related tool. Some samples contain English text so that the same input can be compared across interfaces.
