PRACTICAL TOOL GUIDE

Read a QR Code from a Screenshot on the Same Device

When the QR code is already on your phone or computer, a saved screenshot is enough for this reader. It processes the image locally and shows the content before you decide what to do with it.

Choose the original screenshot

Save the picture as JPG, PNG or static WebP and select it in QR Code Reader. Use the original screenshot when available; repeated messaging-app compression can blur the small squares. The reader accepts one image up to 10 MB and 12 million pixels and returns one QR result. It does not need camera access.

Crop only when it helps

If the screenshot contains a large surrounding page, use Crop Image to keep the code and its clear border. Do not cut off any of the three large corner squares or the small modules around the edge. Keep only one code in the crop. Rotating or enlarging a picture cannot restore detail that has already been lost to heavy blur or damage.

Inspect the decoded content

The result may be plain text, a website address, contact fields or network details. Read the complete address before using an offered link. Decoding confirms what is encoded, not whether a website is trustworthy or a payment request is legitimate. The reader does not open a destination automatically.

Know when the source needs replacing

If a clean crop still fails, ask the sender for the original QR image or the destination address in text form. A decorative code, glare in a photograph or missing edge can defeat recognition. For a code you created yourself, generate a fresh PNG and test it here; also scan the printed copy on the actual receiving device when printing is the intended use.

Check before you finish

  • The full code and its clear border are visible.
  • The result matches what the sender intended to share.
  • A link is opened only after its address has been checked.
