WebP to PNG

Save a downloaded WebP picture as PNG when your editor or upload form requires it. Existing transparent pixels stay transparent; changing the format does not remove an opaque background.

Before you start
Input
One static WebP image.
Output
A PNG copy with existing transparency retained.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a static WebP image.
  2. Preview the image and check its transparent edges.
  3. Convert and download the PNG copy.

Understand the result

The converter decodes the WebP image and writes a PNG. Renaming the file extension is not a conversion. A PNG can retain existing transparency, but it cannot restore detail already lost in a compressed source.

Save WebP as PNG for an editor or upload form

Choose your original static WebP and create a PNG copy. The sample outputs show both a transparent source and a solid background. Check that your destination accepts PNG and that the downloaded copy meets its pixel and byte limits.

Choose PNG or JPG for the destination

Choose PNG when the destination requires it or you need transparency that already exists. Choose JPG for a JPEG-only destination. A PNG may be larger than the WebP source. Neither format conversion restores detail lost earlier.

If the result is not what you expected

The background is still visible.

Format conversion keeps the source pixels. An opaque white background remains white; removing a subject from its background is a different task.

Important limits

  • Static images only; animated WebP is not supported.
  • Conversion does not remove an opaque background or recover lost image detail.
  • One image up to 20 MiB and 25 million pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting WebP to PNG remove a white background?

No. Conversion retains existing pixels. Transparent pixels can stay transparent, while a solid white background remains part of the picture. Background removal is a separate task.

Can I convert animated WebP?

This tool accepts static WebP only. Use an animation-capable workflow when moving frames must be retained.

Why is the downloaded PNG larger?

The formats store image data differently. Keep the original WebP when your destination accepts it and the PNG provides no useful compatibility benefit.
