How to use this tool

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Position the crop area and adjust its proportions.
  3. Preview and download the selected area.

Understand the result

Cropping changes the composition by removing pixels outside your selection. It does not stretch the subject. Use a fixed ratio when a layout needs a particular shape, and resize afterward if it also needs exact pixel dimensions.

How do I crop a photo into a square without stretching it?

Choose the 1:1 aspect ratio and position the crop over the subject. For a 600 × 400 image, a centered 400 × 400 crop uses left 100, top 0, width 400 and height 400. The tool removes the side edges; it does not squeeze the full photo into a square. If an upload needs 300 × 300 pixels, resize the square result afterward.

Should I crop, resize or compress a photo for an upload?

Crop to remove unwanted content or change the aspect ratio. Resize to meet a width and height requirement. Compress to reduce the file size in bytes. If the form has both pixel and file-size limits, crop first if necessary, resize next and then compress. Check the final dimensions and file size before submitting.

If the result is not what you expected

The crop removed part of the subject.

Return to the original and leave enough space around the subject. Use the pixel controls for precise edges. If you need a smaller file without removing content, resize or compress instead.

Important limits

  • Only the selected pixels appear in the output. Keep the original if you may need to change the crop.
  • Static JPG, PNG and WebP only, up to 20 MiB and 25 million pixels. Animated images and GIF editing are unsupported.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping change my original?

The downloaded result is a new file. Keep the original if you may need a different crop later.

Is a square crop the same as a 1000 × 1000 image?

No. A square is a 1:1 ratio and can have many pixel sizes. Use Image Resizer after cropping to set exact dimensions.
